At LSA our main Junveiles session takes place on Thursday evenings 7-8pm in Donabate (DPCC hall or hockey pitch). We are launching a Fit4Youth group for older teenage athletes and Transition Year athletes have the opportunity to assist us with coaching younger groups as part of their Gaisce award. For younger children, aged 8 to 9, the focus is on having fun whilst being active.These sessions build the motor skills of agility, balance and co-ordination. From ages 10-11 we progress to more structured training sessions, while still maintaining a focus on fun. The sessions involve a warm up, agility and events drills. In the summer we may move to Newbridge Park for training.Our session for athletes aged 11 and older concentrates on core skills, running technique and speed, plus aerobic and anaerobic endurance. The session consists of technique drills and either sprints, hurdles or middle distance. Athletes of any level of ability and experience are welcome and the idea is that this session provides an excellent grounding for athletes to specialise in their chosen events. Athletes age 10+ interested in competing in Cross Country or Middle Distance track can also train on Saturday afternoons in Newbridge Park..The session involves a warm up jog, stretching/drills and interval sessions. Athletes are encouraged to do an additional two runs per week themselves and to attend the Thursday session. Athletes from this group usually participate in Cross Country and Track and Field Leagues and Championships. Multi-event track and field competition (age 13 +): A small number of our athletes train with IAAF Level 4 coach Gerry Ronan. Some sessions are with athletes from other clubs at the National Indoor Arena. Adults and Juveniles/ Juniors train together in this group. Depending on the athletes strengths, events such as hurdles, sprints, middle distance up to 800m and field events such as Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt, Javelin, Discus, Hammer are available.
