At the September Area meeting Cllr Rob O’Donoghue tabled a motion regarding the dangers at the junction at Blakes Cross. The motion asked the Chief Executive to provide a comprehensive detailed redesign of the Blakes Cross junction to enhance road safety at the intersection. The response from the Council stated as follows that ‘the upgrade of Blakes Cross is included in the Fingal Capital Programme 2020-2022 and that initial feasibility and design works are planned to commence in 2020’.Cllr O’Donoghue welcome the reporting and during the discussion where he was supported by other local Councillors he highlighted the serious traffic hazards that exist at this very busy junction. He outlined that immediate action should be taken and that he would be continuing to put pressure on the Council to commence these works in the very near future. He stated ‘The traffic volume at this junction which serves the towns of Lusk, Rush, Skerries, Loughshinny and environs is increasing with new developments in the towns and it is now imperative that this junction be brought up to standard to alleviate the serious traffic hazards that exist at this location’.
