Great turnout on the wettest of mornings for Malahide parkrun 479. We had visitors for Aberdeen, Bristol, London, Cardiff and beyond. We hope our visitors felt welcome despite the wet conditions!

A huge thanks as always to our brilliant team of volunteers without whom we wouldn’t have a run. Please think about volunteering over the next few weeks!

The Portmarnock-Malahide branch of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind will be hosting a local fundraiser for the charity on Saturday, 19th August. Supporters of the charity are invited to take part in the fundraiser, which will take place at the Par 3 course at Malahide Castle Sports & Leisure Hub. The Par 3 fundraiser is an annual event, now in its third year, and golfers of all abilities are very welcome to register to take part. Registration costs €20 per person and teams can consist of 2, 3 or 4 players. “We are delighted to be returning to the Sports & Leisure Hub again this year, and we’re very grateful to manager Mick Breen for all of his help and support for the third year running,” said Pat Harney, Chair of the Portmarnock-Malahide branch of IGDB. “Whether you’re a committed golfer or would just like to have some fun with your team and support Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, we would love to see you on the day!” For non-golfers who would like to support the event, raffle tickets can also be bought online at a cost of €5 each. Two raffle tickets are also included with each golf registration. There will be plenty of prizes available both through the raffle and for golfers, and Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind will have a stand outside the Sports & Leisure Hub on the day, where raffle tickets and other merchandise will be available to buy. You might even meet a Guide Dog, Assistance Dog, Ambassador Dog, or Puppy in Training when you visit! To register to play and select your tee time, or buy some raffle tickets, go to igd-portmarnock-malahide.myshopify.com.

A super adventure for the Amikokenda Beavers who all headed out to sea recently! We challenged all our youth members to embrace the spirit of adventure, teamwork and seamanship to get out and reach the Malahide Safe Water Buoy; the recognised marker that you have left the Malahide channel and have reached the Irish Sea! Say hello to Ireland’s future mariners!

Malahide Lions Club were delighted to present a cheque for €8000 to RNLI Howth recently. It takes €250,000 yearly to run the lifeboat which is a real life saving necessity in our region. It’s their share of proceeds from the recent highly successful Malahide Classic & Vintage Motor Show which the Lions Club organise each year for the benefit of local and national charities. There is always something for everyone on the day and this year was no exception with family fun and games, card magic and ice cream as well as the Vintage and classic cars on display. Once again it was a really wonderful day out which not only benefited the RNLI but LauraLynn – Ireland’s Children’s Hospice. Malahide Lions club said, “Thank you to the great community who supported the event and the car owners who took part.”

Matilda the musical was performed recently at St Mary’s Baldoyle, by our fantastic transition students and directed by Amy White Lambe. The wonderful production was presented to packed-out audiences each night with students receiving thoroughly well-deserved standing ovations each evening. It was a tremendous achievement given that Amy had only worked with the Transition Years for about five weeks. Congratulations to Amy and to all that took part and gave the audience, the pupils and staff of St Mary’s such wonderful performances.

Fantastic work by our super volunteers who are all doing their best to rally the troops to contribute to our Sylsfuture! A cheque for €930 presented tonight by our Syl’s swap shop committee Orla Byrne, Celina O Rourke, Orla O’Donnell, Aine O’Neill and Miriam Gilmartin! Also we had a cheque for €500 presented by Nicky Cleere to the Sylsfuture fund and €500 to support our wonderful Syl’s stars group from the proceeds of his photo calendar. What a hero! We remind you that there is still always time to contribute. See sylsfuture.com for more details!
