Well done to our wonderful Tidy Towns group with over 1,000 trees planted in 8 days up at Robs Wall at the start of April. Amazing what a team can do! Also Malcolm did some beautiful creative planting in the village recently. Remember the Tidy Towns always need more volunteers so if you are interested, they meet every Saturday at 10.30am at the front entrance to the Malahide Train Station. Newcomers always welcome.
Dear Members, - I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to ask for your help. The club has brilliantly expanded the number of kids and teenagers playing rugby in our community. We want to do even better and add ladies’ and girl’s teams to the ranks playing in the club colours. We need your assistance to make that happen. Increased numbers and more severe winter storms have seen the club cancel Sunday Rugby and matches on too many occasions, and this all comes back to our lack of space. We want to overcome some of these issues and ensure we do not again have to send messages that our pitches are closed. This loses the club 1000s of individual hours of rugby development per year and restricts our ability to grow. With that in mind our excellent pitch development committee has come up with a plan to develop an all-weather area on the top pitch, so rain or shine, we’ll be out there! We need your contributions to make it happen. The Minis and Youths have led the way, and we are now asking all members to go to our GoFundMe appeal and contribute the suggested €30 donation or as much more or less as you can manage. Every penny of this fund and previous dinners, quizzes, etc, has been ringfenced and will be spent solely on the all-weather pitch. Senior Sides will be using this area very rarely. It is an investment for the young people of the club and community. Please donate at ..gofundme.com/f/malahide-rfc-pitch-development… or If indeed your company is in a position to make a more substantial contribution to this project then please do get in touch with me directly anytime at chairman@malahiderfc.ie, and we can outline sponsorship and corporate packages available. Thank you. Yours Sincerely,
Aidan Brophy Malahide RFC Chairperson

Another Irish Heart Foundation ‘Hands for Life’ session carried out on a Monday evening recently by Declan. This time it was in Corduff National School in Lusk, where there is an AED on site that is also available out of hours. 17 attended - parents of children in the school as well as neighbours who have access to the AED. What a fabulous and lifesaving amenity to have for the community. Many thanks all who attended, and especially to Principal Anna McKeown for hosting and taking part also.
And that’s it we are all finished for another year’s Master Mariner competition, supported by the Mariners. The Captain Cian Timmons memorial trophy for the highest placing Rover Scout was won by Cormac Eason from 9th Port (Malahide) Sea Scouts. The event included a practical boat handling exercise in Malahide Marina, with Dan Clohessy from 9th Port (Malahide) achieving the highest marks in this section, receiving the Eoghan Lavelle Coxn prize.
Thanks to Éanna Gallagher, himself a former Sea Scout, from Local Authority Waters Programme who conducted a workshop on clean water issues and on how Scouting can contribute to community water initiatives. Thanks to all the examiners who gave up their time to make the event happen! See you next year for the 30th anniversary! Let’s make sure every Sea Scout Group gets at least one representative to the event. Let us know how we can support your group to make this happen. Please note for your attention: We have been fortunate enough to get some new canoes and so we are looking for a home for 5 of our older canoes. All are in good order to take on the water now. (See picture) Please get in touch if your Scout troop would like them.

The series was filmed as part of TradFest 2023 when the Ireland’s largest traditional and folk music festival expanded to Fingal for the first time. The TradFest Fingal programme was expanded greatly in 2024 with many sold out events in our historic sites and picturesque locations in the Fingal region as we celebrated and experienced extraordinary live Irish music and culture as well as the new FingalFringe. The pinnacle of the festival was the premiere of “Ocean Child” a newly commissioned musical narrative, composed by Neil Martin based on the tragic tale of the RMS Tayleur and featuring Stephen Rea, Neil and his West Ocean String Quartet, and Louise and Michelle Mulcahy. The wonderful Mulcahy sisters and acclaimed actor Stephen Rea will also feature in the Fingal Sessions series.
