Ball Busters women’s football club was formed by Amanda Bracken and Tanya Christie, two friends from Lusk with a passion to play competitive football without the restrictions of playing on an actual team. Two mammies that still wanted the buzz of winning a game but having the craic at the same time. One afternoon after chatting through one of their many notions they decided to start up Ball Busters, a social indoor soccer group, and so it began, February 2023, the beginning of something special. On night one, we thought we would have loads of girls but 6 turned up, we thought all we had to do was organise it and people would show but that was not the case. Through hours of hard work and dedication, we have built a WhatsApp group of over 80 ladies, we rent 3 out of the 5 astros in the Soccer Dome in Santry, with upwards of 40 ladies coming each week. We organise outings, have nights away, we have been to Wexford to play Courtown Hibs and have just come back from Bangor where we played 2 teams and won both matches, we have also done a bungee fitness class, we are very much a social group. We have built something that the ladies look forward to each week and keep coming back. For women in sports week, we will have 60+ ladies in the Dome, who all came together for the same reason, play ball, and have fun. We have built a very supportive environment for everyone, all levels are welcome, if you miss a goal no one is going to shout at you. We are so lucky with the mixture of girls we have, they are such a lovely bunch, there is never a cross word between any of us. It has given us all an outlet, something we can do for ourselves. So why not come and join us.

Dear Members, - I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to ask for your help. The club has brilliantly expanded the number of kids and teenagers playing rugby in our community. We want to do even better and add ladies’ and girl’s teams to the ranks playing in the club colours. We need your assistance to make that happen. Increased numbers and more severe winter storms have seen the club cancel Sunday Rugby and matches on too many occasions, and this all comes back to our lack of space. We want to overcome some of these issues and ensure we do not again have to send messages that our pitches are closed. This loses the club 1000s of individual hours of rugby development per year and restricts our ability to grow. With that in mind our excellent pitch development committee has come up with a plan to develop an all-weather area on the top pitch, so rain or shine, we’ll be out there! We need your contributions to make it happen. The Minis and Youths have led the way, and we are now asking all members to go to our GoFundMe appeal and contribute the suggested €30 donation or as much more or less as you can manage. Every penny of this fund and previous dinners, quizzes, etc, has been ringfenced and will be spent solely on the all-weather pitch. Senior Sides will be using this area very rarely. It is an investment for the young people of the club and community. Please donate at ..gofundme.com/f/malahide-rfc-pitch-development… or If indeed your company is in a position to make a more substantial contribution to this project then please do get in touch with me directly anytime at chairman@malahiderfc.ie, and we can outline sponsorship and corporate packages available. Thank you. Yours Sincerely,
Aidan Brophy Malahide RFC Chairperson

This is only the second time in Ireland’s history that an Irish fighter has qualified for the summer games, and we are delighted to see it’s our friend Jack Whooly from South Dublin Taekwondo. Robert Taaffe (head coach at SDTKD) and Stuart head coach at Junsa have been close friends for many years and have collaborated on many projects, from player development, coaches education, Olympic strategies to grassroots Taekwondo training.

We would like to wish our friends Jack and Robert every success at the Olympic Games. Meanwhile at home in Lusk our students have been competing and training to emulate the success of Jack and hone their Taekwondo skills to make it all the way. But Junsa offers more than just Olympic Taekwondo training. We want our students to be disciplined, motivated, hardworking, respectful but most of all kind.
Here’s a few snapshots of our young athletes/ students in action.

The recent Lusk 4 mile was a huge success. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this and to the local community and sponsors for their support. Well done to our athletes that have competed in the National Juvenile Championships and good luck to those still to compete. We can now look forward to the outdoor season that is upon us and a welcome return to training on bright mornings and evenings. Best of luck to the large group from the club that have entered the Dublin 10k in Garristown on 7th April. We will be starting Monday night track sessions at ALSAA in April and all club members are welcome.

Our U13 Girls welcomed St. Peters, Man O War GFC & Fingal Ravens GFC to Thomas Ashe Park for a series of challenge matches in recent months. There was an abundance of talent on display amongst all the girls. Thank you to all the girls and their mentors from all of the clubs for joining us. Regarding Adult Men’s Football: our retired members and friends evening in January of 2024 was a great success. We also held a celebration of hurling within the club. We unveiled our hurling Roll of Honour board stretching back as far as 1910. A huge thanks to the many contributors who made the event possible. A Lusk GAA Medal of 1915 has been discovered! A member came into possession of a 9ct gold medal some time ago which came to him in a batch of gold scrap from a jewellery trade customer. It is a 9ct gold medal won by Lusk GAA in 1915. It is a very beautiful medal and we do not like to see items like this scrapped as they are part of the GAA heritage.
